GNOSTIC CHURCH

ECCLESIA GNOSTICA

FOUNDATIONS

The Gnostic Church is a contemporary Gnostic community. It operates in a decentralized network distributed throughout Switzerland. Each canton has at least one active or inactive Gnostic chapel represented by a woman and a man (Cantonal Priestess and Priest). Throughout the Swiss Confederation, the Gnostic Church is made up of at least 26 cantonal chapels, one per canton, which are validly represented by the signatures of the members of their cantonal or communal religious board of directors.

Their tasks and powers are entirely separate from those of the State and have no profit-making or political aims. Each chapel manages its treasury independently according to its tax domicile; there is no centralised treasury. The communal chapels are free to organise themselves as they see fit, without any central hierarchical authority or religious directives from the communal, cantonal or federal authorities.

The Church does not ask for any financial contribution from its members. Each member or member of the faithful is responsible for his or her intentions and actions before the law. The members of the chapels meet as they wish and may freely modify, share and represent the values of the Church. It is not indispensable to know another member to join the Church, the commitment is authentic. The Church does not keep a register or list of its members.

Some chapels are built on a primitive or ancient tradition and others on modern gnostic currents. The board of directors (parish council) of a chapel has at least two members, one man and one woman. In practical terms, the term chapel implies a space of at least one room, which may be enclosed. It can include larger buildings and monuments such as temples or churches.
